MISSION STATEMENT
Oregon Mediator Diversity Project (OMDP) recognizes that the mediation profession in Oregon lacks the diversity needed to make available to litigants mediators from a broad spectrum of diverse identities and practice areas. This deficiency needs correction to ensure the equal access to justice that is essential for credible resolution of disputes outside of trial.
OMDP seeks to address the lack of diversity in the mediation profession by: 1) providing a comprehensive skills-based mediation training program to potential future mediators who identify as diverse; 2) establishing a supportive resource network for OMDP-certified mediators; and 3) securing commitments from various practice area litigators to prioritize the use of OMDP-certified mediators.
OMDP recognizes that the lack of diversity is tied to historic and ongoing systemic discrimination in the mediation and legal profession and in our society generally. OMDP considers diverse identities to include: ability/disability, age, color, ethnicity, gender expression, gender identity, marital status, national origin, neurodiversity, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, and veteran status.
